Abstract
The aim of this project was to investigate how osteopaths diagnose, treat and manage a frozen shoulder, and within this process how they integrate the BSO led concept of the diagnostic logos. An interview format was chosen and 10 practicing osteopaths who work as tutors at the BSO were interviewed for their views on the subject. The study was of a qualitative nature and the results were analysed using a form of coding to test for their reliability. Originally it had been intended that, following the coding process, the results would be analysed using 'Grounded Theory', but this did not occur due to poor time keeping of the researcher. The results were limited, due to the small number of subjects interviewed but they did seem to indicate that osteopaths feel they are successful in the treatment and management of a 'frozen shoulder'. As a number of errors arose during the analysis of the data, it was decided to change this to a detailed pilot study. Conclusions that arose were, that osteopaths consider themselves to be successful in the treatment of 'frozen shoulder', but there is a need for much further research to be undertaken in this area to validate these findings, and to find out why osteopaths have such confidence, as there is very little evidence to support their claims.
