- Abstract
- The aim of this research was to find out if it would be possible for myopia to be treated by osteopathy. To this end three case studies were undertaken. The volunteers were British School of Osteopathy fourth year male students between the ages of twenty and thirty-five. They had their eyesight measured, using a Snellen Chart, for four weeks before treatment to get a baseline against which the measurements during treatment can be compared. They then received four treatments with visual acuity being measured before and after treatment. Finally, four further weekly measurements were taken after the course of treatment to assess whether their eyesight returned to its previous levels. During treatment there was an improvement in visual acuity but it did not last once treatment had finished except in one case. For this patient, the return to the original state was more gradual. It was concluded that osteopathy may be a tool for improving eyesight but more extensive research is required.
