- Objective: evaluate the effectiveness of osteopathic techniques in patients with hypertension.Design: bibliographic reviewData sources: systematic search and analysis from February to December 20011: Pubmed, Biomedcentral, Scirus, Ostmed, Osteopathic research web, web journals and books from Escola d’Osteopatia de Barcelona library.Study selection. Inclusion criteria: studies of patients with hypertension and osteopathic treatments using different techniques. Books information is also included with the same inclusion criteria.Results: 30 documents were selected from studies, thesis and books found in the research. The results show decreases in blood pressure in hypertensive patients in the short term using different osteopathic techniques. The methodological quality of studies is generally low.Conclusions: osteopathic techniques can not be considered as an isolated treatment of hypertension in the long term. Its effects are mainly short term and only on the kidney visceral techniques could provide medium-term results, although there are few studies to prove it.

- Objetivo: evaluar la eficacia de las técnicas osteopáticas en pacientes con hipertensión arterial (HTA).Diseño: revisión bibliográficaFuentes de datos: búsqueda sistemática y análisis desde febrero a diciembre de 2011 en: Pubmed, Biomedcentral, Scirus, Ostmed, Osteopathic research web, revistas electrónicas y libros y revistas de la biblioteca de la Escuela de Osteopatía de Barcelona.Selección de estudios. Criterios de inclusión: estudios de pacientes con HTA y tratamientos mediante diferentes técnicas osteopáticas. Se ha incluido también información de libros con los mismos criterios de inclusión.Resultados: de la información encontrada he seleccionado 30 documentos, entre estudios, tesis y libros. Los resultados muestran descensos de la presión arterial (PA) en pacientes hipertensos a corto plazo utilizando diferentes técnicas osteopáticas. La calidad metodológica de los estudios, en general, es baja.Conclusiones: las técnicas osteopáticas no pueden ser consideradas como un tratamiento aislado de la HTA a largo plazo. Sus efectos principalmente se dan a corto plazo y sólo las técnicas viscerales sobre el riñón podrían aportar resultados a medio plazo, aunque hay pocos estudios que lo demuestren.
