Abstract
Introduction: Osteopathic manual therapy is used for the treatment of tem-poromandibular disorder. Objective: Observe the change in pain and amplitude of the maximum verti-cal opening range of the mouth after an osteopathic treatment protocol.
Methodology: The American Association of Orofacial Pain screening ques-tionnaire was used for the selection of patients and the Research Diagnostic of Orofacial Pain screening was used for the selection of patients and the Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders for the diagnostic and study of the variables. Muscle pain was measured by palpation of the muscles and the RMV is measured using a ruler. Release techniques were used for the elimination of the pain and increase of the RMV, myofascial suboccipital inhibition, treatment of the TrPs and relaxation of the ligaments.
Results: The Student-t was used for the statistical analysis of the data. No significant results regarding the decrease of overall muscle pain have been (2,4000 ± 3,80643, p = 0, 177). Although yes to see the breadth of the range before (49,700 ± 4,2176, p = 0, 00) and after treatment (50,700 ± 3,3350, p = 0, 000).
Conclusions: The results cannot be generalized due to low sample size. It would be necessary to conduct further research with a larger sample size.
