- Abstract
- This work is the first literature study that tries to find some convergence between osteopathy and yoga. No such work has been found in literature yet. Apart from showing parallels, it was the aim of this study to find out whether aspects of yoga can be of practical use for osteopathy. The main emphasis was put on the following:Comparison of the two philosophies, search for parallels to the basic principles of osteopathy in yoga, comparison of the effects of osteopathy and yoga in the structural, visceral and craniosacral fields, description of the importance of diaphragms and breathing in both systems.Remarkable common ground could be discovered in the topics examined. Another result of this work is: Yoga could support osteopathic treatment, yoga could reduce the probability of the recurrence of an osteopathic lesion, and yoga could contribute to the necessary change of the patients’ habits.Looking into yoga can contribute to the personal benefit of the osteopath and to the benefit of his patients at different levels. Keywords: osteopathy, yoga, comparison, literature study
