Abstract
Introduction: Back pain is one of the main reasons -perhaps the most important- medical consultation. In this context osteopathy must look for solutions to this problem. In its holistic view of the body, the osteopath must understand "the economy of the human body" and propose the appropriate techniques without subjecting the patient to overloaded sessions or overtreatment, so that the recuperation process is as natural as possible. Following this premise the following pilot study proposes a minimalist treatment of chronic low back pain. Is about applying an osteopathic manipulation at the level of the 4th thoracic vertebra and influence the low back pain. This vertebra is in the middle of a crossroads of lines of force and tension through the body. If poorly positioned, may cause misalignment of the correct direction of these forces in any body sector.
Methodology: A pilot study was made, with a sample of 24 patients of both sexes, aged between 20 and 50 years and it was divided into 2 groups: Osteopathy Treatment Group (GTO) and Control (SHAM); randomized by RANDOM. Data were analysed by statistics methods, with Wilcoxon’s (p <0,05).
Results: The change in chronic low back pain was significant in the GTO, while in SHAM, mostly remained the same.
Conclusions: It makes higher quality studies to test the effect, but this pilot study to suggest that there is influence of technical T4 on the change in chronic low back pain.
