Abstract
Summary:The aim of this study is to demonstrate the effectiveness of the technique
Suboccipital Inhibition in patients with fibromyalgia, checking level changes
of pain and somatosensory information with an osteopathic treatment.
Methods:
Experimental study single-blind with a total of twenty-one women distributed
randomly into two groups, experimental (n=12), which received Suboccipital
Inhibition Technique and Control (n=9), who received a placebo technique.
Data relating to the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), and cervical training
(E.P.A) was collected. Also the health levels were achieved by surveys such
as the FIQ-S (Spanish version of the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnare) and
the rank of cervical disabilities through the Neck Disability Index (NDI).
Results:
Clinically relevant improvements were found in relation to pain. Therefore,
the results are statistically significant with the five variables, some more
strongly than others, but in all cases there is shown a greater or lesser
suitability for the use of the technique of inhibiting the suboccipital
musculature.
Conclusions:
The results of this study suggest that the osteopathic approach is a possibility
of treatment for muscle suboccipital pain in women with fibromyalgia , as it
provides significant improvements in symptoms.
Abstract
cervical training (E.P.A).
