Abstract
Summary: In today's society many people perceive stress and its negative effects. There is a lack of evidence of osteopathic techniques regarding this topic. This study observes TBA (Total body adjustment) at different rates to reduce perceived stress and analyzes changes in heart rate and blood pressure.Method and material: A randomized, single blind clinical trial study was performed on adults (n = 15), who perceived a high stress (PSS10 > 16). Group 3 underwent a routine TBA in the length of 25 minutes, group 2 went through the same routine TBA but in the length of 10 minutes and group 1 (control) was submitted TENS in the length of 25 min. In each group two sessions were held during two weeks period. ANOVA of one factor was applied. The study was designed as a comparative study of the variables HR, SBP, DBP and PSS10 scale.
Results: The analysis shows a reduction in the average of the variables but this cannot be concluded as statistically significant. The analysis of variance showed results higher than 0.05(p> 0, 05).
Conclusions: TBA applied for 25 minutes on adults who perceive a high level of stress does not decrease HR and BP and does not reduce perceived stress after two sessions if is compared with TBA in 10 minutes. It would be interesting to conduct a similar study with a larger population sample.
