- Background: Parkinson's is a chronic, degenerative disease, which has no cure, The progressive nature of this disease, leads to disability and includes motor and non-motor symptoms.Objectives: There is already evidence in support of physical activity improving the physical symptoms of parkinson's disease, however little research into psychological effects. Therefore this study is aimed at identifying whether physical activity affects the patient psychologically, the challenges physical activity presents and the physical effects from a patients point of view.Design: A qualitative approach was used was used to gather data with phenomenological model was used. Metholdlogy: Seven pafticipants were selected and semi-structured interviews were used, audio-recorded and transcribed. Data was analysed and interpreted using thematic framework.Results:Four main themes emerged from the data: Reasons for exercise, conceptions of exercise, symptoms and challenges. Discussion: The most common subtheme of study was the participants wanted to main mobility, with the aim to reduce stiffness. Also a few attended a parkinson's class with specific exercises, the participants liked the support offered and were excited prior to the activity. Those attended classes felt fatigued after, however reported to be okay after a rest. Conclusion:Of the results obtained, physical activity can help to improve mobility and reduce stiffness. Participants reported a general well-being and excited prior to the activity, for those who attended the parkinson's specific classes. The patients showed support for the class and liked the services offered. Physical activity made many fatigued, however recovered after a rest.
