Abstract
Introduction_The IJOM has formulated a call for research articles about osteopathic education. Indeed in the past few years the number of students taking part in a course in osteopathic education has but increased and they ultimately constitute the future of the profession. As well, the osteopathic profession is getting more and more regulated and so is its education. This is why there is currently in increase interest in understanding better how we can improve our educational system. Methods_The researcher used a semi-structured topic guide to conduct 8 interviews in person and through Skype, starting by a pilot interview in French. The interviews were transcribed and coded and the thematic framework was created using all the findings. Results_9 higher- level themes were identified and together they had 42 sub-themes. Overall the motivations were organized between individualistic and altruistic as some subjects had the desire to contribute to the profession when others just wanted their career to progress. Discussion_The motivations were correlated with the current literature. The author spent some time analyzing the current changes in osteopathic education reported by the subjects in correlation with the research as the subjects were split in two groups according to their beliefs in science or in osteopathic philosophy. Conclusion To conclude, the author suggests that the osteopathic educators should look closer at existing models of education as they might help the profession towards more respect in the healthcare system as well as unify the osteopaths
