Abstract
This study is an investigation of patients' expectations in relation to osteopathic treatment. One Hundred questionnaires were completed by patients in two different clinics in the south east of England Analysis of results was carried out using bar charts, pie charts, Chi-square tests and Spearman Rank correlation tests for statistical analysis ofassociations, correlations and differences. Results showed that _Good knowledge'; 'Good communication skills' and _Good ability to listen' were considered by patients to be the factors of greatest importance as ranked first, second and third by order of importance. It was shown that all the patients included in the study (100%) were expecting the practitioner to provide a clear explanation of their problem, an accurate diagnosis and to discuss with them a treatment plan. Prescription of exercises and advice regarding their lifestyle was also of importance as acknowledged by 100% of the subjects. When questioned about their expectations of treatment, patients emphasized the importance of symptom relief, improvement in their quality of life and holistic approach. Significant correlation was found between age, gender, number of treatment received and the expectations of patients. It would be of interest to repeat this study on a larger sample, to investigate patients' expectations on a larger scale
