- This paper present's a review of the relatively new architectural concept of tensegrity, originally developed by Buckminster Fuller. It demonstrates through ecent research how this model applies to the human body on multiple levels from the microscopic to the macroscopic, proposing how an appreciation of the tensegrity concept may aid an osteopathic practitioner's diagnosis and treatment plan. The paper analyses how the tensegrity model compares/integrates with the older diagnostic and treatment approaches of Littlejohn's osteopathic biomechanical model, and also discuss the tensegrous properties inherent within the fascia} network and the relevant communication links this provides. The paper integrates the fields it has examined highlighting links to osteopathic principles, practice and philosophy. Tensegrity is shown as a highly significant concept in relation to the human body especially the reciprocity of structure/function and in explanation of the holistic approach from which osteopathic medicine originates this paper present's a review of the relatively new architectural concept of tensegrity, originally developed by Buckminster Fuller.
