Abstract
The study objective was to investigate whether a manipulation of spinal level T4/5 changes the body's central point of balance. Research into the involvement of the intrinsic spinal muscles in postural stability continues to be evidenced and supported. Osteopathic research in this area proceeds to develop, giving a greater understanding in the role of osteopathic treatment and its possible effects of postural stability. This project aimed at investigating whether a manipulation of spinal level T4/5 initiates a changes the body's central point of balance. The hypothesis was: A manipulation of T4 changes postural sway. The null hypothesis was: A manipulation of T4 does not change postural sway. Design 40 subjects were studied in a single blind, randomized parallel group design. There were two groups involved, experimental group and control group. The mean age was: Experimental group_25.5 years of age Control group25 years of age Setting The study population sampled were adult male and female students at the European School of Osteopathy. All measurements were performed at the research centre at the European School of Osteopathy
