Abstract
Background: muscle injuries have often lead to residual scar lesions that affect the structure and function of the myofascial tissue, compromising its flexibility and the contractibility. The aim of this study is to evidence the efficacy of the myofascial functional techniques in soccer players with muscle injury history on the quadriceps, and scar evidence on ultrasound image.
Method: clinical controlled randomized trial conducted with 14 soccer players presenting muscle injury history on the quadriceps. Randomly they were divided into a working group, with 5 functional osteopathic treatments, and a control group, with no treatment.
Initially, the variables were measured in all subjects (length of the scar with ultrasound image, strength with dynamometer and flexibility with inclinometer), and 3 months later they were measured again.
Results: comparing the treated to the control group, some improvement was observed, before-and-after treatment, in the variation of the length of the scar (0.04 – 0.02), strength (14.4 – 13.4) and flexibility (3.3 – 2.3), but it was not statistically significant.
Conclusion: although there was a slight improvement in the treated group compared to the control, the difference was not statistically significant. There were no conclusive results that could verify the efficacy of the myofascial functional techniques.
